The Pokemon Company revealed their newest creature today, the mythical Pokemon Zarude, as part of its Pokemon Day celebrations.
Zarude follows the Dark typing’s pattern of being filled with attitude–something it shares with the Galar region’s Obstagoon above all else–hissing and pouncing its way through the debut trailer. It’s also part Grass type, launching vines from its neck, wrists, and feet, all while making use of the Leaf Guard ability to prevent status conditions during sunlight.
Key term
- Status condition – the Pokemon is affected by a game condition, placed on it by another Pokemon, that in most cases negatively affects it. Poison, sleep, burns, and freezing are the most common types.
It’s not yet clear when Zarude will debut in Pokemon Sword and Shield but it will be through downloadable content The Pokemon Company confirmed. It’s also not clear what role the mythical monster will play in the world of Pokemon, though a trailer for the 23rd Pokemon movie, Coco, shows the monster is partial to at least one human…and also hotsprings.
One thing that is certain? Bug types have a new favourite match-up, with a 4x super-effective type advantage! Ouch.
