Advisory: The game featured in this article has microtransactions that exceed $10.
Longtime Spider-Man nemesis J. Jonah Jameson might not be appearing in the newest Spider-Man film. Actor J.K. Simmons told ComicBook.com that he isn’t appearing in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, out next week in theatres, despite being a part of the film franchise since 2002.
Nonetheless, the iconic editor of the Daily Bugle, and constant irritant to Peter Parker is getting a major appearance this month. J. Jonah became the newest playable card in Marvel Snap and his card’s ability is certainly unique.
ONGOING: Your text emotes are ruder.
The 1-cost, 3-power card eschews normal mechanics in the collectible card battler. Instead of powering up one of your cards, destroying an opponent, or moving about the field, it simply makes the in-game text emotes come from J. Jonah himself, complete with his signature flair.
A simple “Hello!” greeting now becomes “Let’s get on with it!” while the more incredulous “I don’t believe you” becomes “Fake News!”
It’s the type of silly thing fans have looked forward to for years since the concept showed up in datamines over two years ago. And while it’s a gimmick card, it’ll likely find a home in at least a few decks starving for 1-cost cards with the “Ongoing” text to take advantage of their own buffs.
The fiery editor-in-chief will be joined by a new take on Scorpion — this one actually appearing in Brand New Day — a fitting addition given that J. Jonah himself was directly responsible for the creation of the villain in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #20 some 60 years ago.
Fans looking to demand their own pictures of Spider-Man can log into Marvel Snap anytime between July 21st and August 3rd, 2026. He’s the first available daily log in reward with other bonuses unlocked over the following two weeks.
Summer events and rewards are often used by mobile developers to lure back vacation goers. With a brand new film, Marvel Snap is hoping a free brand new card, and the hype of Brand New Day, will do just that.
