Older machines will be supported too.
Epic Games announced today that they’re bringing Fortnite to Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 and they’re doing so at the launch of those systems. That’s not particularly unexpected given the nature of Fortnite as a service based game–one that players have sunk countless hours and V-bucks into–but Epic didn’t stop there.
“We plan to support cross-progression across console generations and platforms so that your account, progression, and items carry over,” they note in the release, adding that crossplay will continue to be supported, including across generations of devices.
This is the same old Fortnite you know and love with all of your items and progressions carrying over just as it would between other systems.
Epic have also laid out the roadmap for a major Fortnite revision: It will migrate to the Unreal Engine 5, also unveiled today, sometime in “mid” 2021. That engine aims to “achieve photorealism on par with movie CG and real life”, Epic say, outlining that it expects to be fully out the door in “late” 2021 with the engine.
