After nearly a decade resting online, Prince of Persia Redemption trailer surfaces for the masses

Maybe it IS redeemed.

Something interesting happened Wednesday, when Twitter user Daniel Ahmad innocuously tweeted that “there has been a video from a cancelled Prince of Persia game up on Youtube for 8 years and nobody noticed till today”.

The video, initially posted to YouTube by PositiveLauncher, sat around 150 views according to the ResetEra user who discovered it. As of writing, it’s now surpassed 5000 views. Interestingly, at least one Ubisoft Assistant Director was among the 150 views of the demo footage, though it seems he took no action to remove the footage that has been sitting dormant for eight years.

Former Ubisoft developer Jonathan Cooper weighed in on the footage on Twitter, remarking it is a “pre-rendered game pitch” that would inspire the development of Assassin’s Creed III due to how the trailer looked like real gameplay.

Cooper went on to ruminate on the fate of the Prince of Persia series, noting “original creator Jordan Mechner still holds license rights so the profit margins are lower”, making for a poorer business case for Ubisoft.

Ubisoft have their hands full developing Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, but we’re sure they’ll take note of the outpour of support for the legendary franchise, which had its 30th anniversary last year.
