We keep track of our song of the moment posted on the site’s sidebar here.
May 30, 2020 – Beauty in the Eye of the Orbiter (Sid Meier’s Civilization Beyond Earth)
Why it was added: The first private sector manned launch has happened. Two astronauts are in orbit as they head towards the ISS. The atmospheric music here captures the sense of wonder.
5/18/2020 – Museum Theme (Animal Crossing City Folk)
Why it was added: It’s International Museum Day!
5/5/2020 – Lost in Thoughts All Alone (JP) [Fire Emblem Fates/ Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]
Why it was added: Hearing it performed as part of last year’s Fire Emblem concert, available to stream for a limited time, we were reminded just how haunting the song remains. Plus, being lost in thoughts all alone isn’t all that uncommon right now, given the pandemic.
4/30/2020 – The High Seas (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag)
Why it was added: There’s a new Assassin’s Creed game officially announced today! Will its music rival that of the best in the series? We certainly hope so!
4/27/2020 – Battle Theme (Final Fantasy VII Remake)
Why it was added: Sometimes you just need to start your week with an epic feeling. This tune has given us that feeling since the ’90s. Cloud is back – though we didn’t mind seeing him again in Smash Bros.
4/20/2020 – Spring (Stardew Valley)
Why it was added: It finally feels like Spring!
4/15/2020 – Terror Upon Us (XCOM: Enemy Unknown)
Why it was added: A new XCOM game has been announced! This very short song is used on the first terror attack on a city in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The song is heart pounding…and then the Chryssalids emerge!
4/12/2020 – Wildlands (Yoshi’s Island DS / Super Smash Bros for Wii U)
Why it was added: Happy Easter! When we think Easter we think eggs. And when we think eggs we think Zipper T Bunny and how he haunts us. We much prefer Yoshi and his eggs. “Widlands” has some pep in its step and is just a good wholesome tune. Enjoy!
4/11/2020 – Surface 1 (Goldeneye 007)
Why it was added: As a skiff of snow hits parts of the United States and Canada in mid April, one can’t help but wonder…when is spring going to arrive? “Surface” manages to evoke the sense of extreme cold presented in its appearances in Goldeneye. It holds up after all these years. Just mind your subwoofer — this tune has oooomph.
