Nothing sus about these wins.
2020’s surprise hit Among Us has taken two major wins at this year’s The Game Awards. The mobile and PC game, first launched in 2018, blew up as varying parts of the world rotated through lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, becoming a phenomenon along the way.
Terms like ‘sus’ entered the mainstream, unofficial merch flooded social media, and politicians like Canada’s Jagmeet Singh and the US congresswoman AOC flocked to the game to stream it while building their #brands.
Now, the game has taken the crown for best multiplayer game and best mobile game, fending off challengers like Genshin Impact, Fall Guys, Valorant, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and others.
To celebrate the awards, the team introduced a limited-time drop on Amazon, a terrifying and frankly bizarre mask of host Geoff Keighley’s face.
Innersloth also gave us our first full look at Among Us’ next map, The Airship, which appears to be quite large. Traversal is key on this map as ladders and floating platforms factor into your movement.
After each meeting, crewmates (and impostors) can choose one of three rooms to start in, instead of being gathered around a central hub. Such a feature will likely make the endgame of a match more interesting as impostors seek out their prey.
The Airship is due out in early 2021. Among Us is free to play on mobile but features cosmetic in-app purchases.
