Get building.
After a late Wednesday announcement of an announcement, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s next Fighter’s Pass addition was confirmed early this morning, with Minecraft‘s Steve and Alex joining the brawler.
The latest fighter is actually a host of characters, not unlike Dragon Quest‘s Hero, with Zombie and Enderman skins too.
Various in-universe items such as the pickaxe are highlighted; mining and crafting both seem to be highlighted, with the fighter digging up iron in the debut trailer and crafting an iron sword with it.
Building blocks can be placed all around stages, too, a feat that director Masahiro Sakurai has noted means “rework[ing] all our existing stages so that blocks can be placed in them”.
“Making everything work well together in the game including the fighter’s physical attacks and their short reach, will be extremely hard” Sakurai added, referencing the need to once again balance the game’s other fighters in response to this addition.
More details about the “really unusual fighter” will be revealed in a 45 minute stream this Saturday aligning with the Minecraft Live event. Similar videos have included detailed walkthroughs of the character’s moveset, descriptors of the included stage and music, as well as additional item reveals such as Mii Fighter costumes.
