Newest Magic: The Gathering variants feature the King of the Monsters and company.
A collection of monster variants joins the newest expansion, Ikoria: Lair of the Behemoths, as a pre-order and collector bonus.
Godzilla, King of the Monsters is limited to those who pre-order a Booster Box. Other monsters can be obtained through the Ikoria Collector Booster, two at a time, encouraging diehard kaiju fans to pull multiple packs, while every sealed draft booster pack will contain one. Draft boosters, meanwhile, won’t contain any of the legendary monsters.
Wizards of the Coast note that the digital versions of these cards will start appearing later this month in Magic: The Gathering Arena, while the physical release is scheduled for May 15th.
The Hollywood Reporter scored an exclusive interview with product architect, Mark Heggen, who notes that “[t]hey’re completely real Magic cards, so you can put them in a casual deck and crush your friends at home, or enter them in a high-stakes competitive tournament”.
Godzilla has seen something of a renaissance in the Western world in recent years with an upcoming film, Godzilla vs Kong, currently scheduled to release this November, to say nothing of the Eminem song that uses the King of the Monsters as its namesake, or the animated Netflix releases.
