Remapping controller buttons is long awaited.
The new Switch system update, 10.0.0, brings with it a host of improvements according to Nintendo’s breakdown of the update.
Updates include new user icons from Animal Crossing, bookmarking news, and ease of access to your play activity settings round out the lesser features.
Transferring content from your Switch to an SD card has now been made possible as well, enabling players to freely move downloaded games, DLC, and updates across those storage options. Unfortunately, save data is still tied to the Switch in question, meaning you can’t just easily pop your SD card into a new Switch and have immediate access to your Pokemon or your Animal Crossing island.
By far the marquee feature in this update, however, is the ability to remap button inputs. Joy-cons, the Pro Controller, and Switch Lite controls can all be re-mapped now and each controller type can have five different configurations saved. This will have immediate improvements for players who struggle with fast-paced games like DOOM, mashing through menus with the A button in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and generally give players the freedoms to come up with solutions that meet their own needs.
