An extra character awaits those who seek the ultimate challenge. It’s also a bit tongue in cheek.
In a game filled with self-referential in jokes (mainly coming from the merc with a mouth) and broader allusions to the Marvel multiverse, it’s no surprise that even its DLC’s final, secret unlockable character seems to carry with it the weight of the series itself.
In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, the final unlockable character was one seemingly missing from the roster, especially given his earlier role in the first game. Nick Fury, controlled by nanites, is unlocked after beating the game he serves as the final boss in. Many fans were, at the time, disappointed by his inclusion in this way, and it seems likely that the Black Order‘s final unlock may leave some fans feeling the same way.
While not quite the final boss, the last unlock in the Shadow of Doom DLC is Thanos (Infinite), a super charged Thanos utilizing all of the Infinity Stones. He isn’t the same old Thanos, either, and instead of bruising his way through battles his Infinity Stones create bursts of reality and space bending energy for melee attacks; powerful charge attack are emphasized, including some with an area of effect; and a sort of teleportation round out the ultimate fighter in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
In order to unlock him you’ll need to beat the game on Ultimate Mode which the game suggests a team comprised of level 200 heroes. (Have no fear — the new level cap is 300, leaving lots of room to grind past if needed, though teams of level 140-150 should be adequate for skilled players.)
As an added bonus, if you’ve not yet unlocked standard Thanos, he’s now unlockable by beating Level 10 in the story mode by claiming the rewards under the Rewards menu (hit x, click the right control stick to update, and scroll over to the new story unlocks). It’s a nice bonus for those stuck on his Infinity Trial.
