We’re as surprised as you are.
I may be dating myself here, but I distinctly remember watching The Simpsons as a kid and seeing Bart Simpson receive Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge as a slightly misguided Christmas gift instead of the far more violent (and desirable) Bonestorm. The game was humorously “played” during the credits. Predictably, it looked terrible, exactly the type of game no kid wanted to receive.
Well, an enterprising game developer, Aaron Demeter, has created a playable, browser-based version of that fictional game!
And surprise, it’s actually terrible — but hilariously so. Your options are extremely limited — you can either swing with a putter or a 3 wood club, and you can use “feather touch” or “power drive” to determine the force of your swing. There’s admittedly very little actual gameplay (perhaps intentionally), but it’s still fun for a few minutes and serves as a nostalgic touch for those who grew up with The Simpsons or those who are experiencing early seasons for the first time through Disney+.
The game managed to catch the attention of the show’s current executive producer, Bill Oakley, who tweeted about it:
