The third season introduces a new line-up for a new region.
Ash Ketchum‘s first stop outside the Kanto region may have been the Orange Islands but Johto is his first main adventure in a totally new region. The 52 episode third season, Johto Journeys, sees Ash catching the region’s starter Pokemon along with a Heracross and shiny Noctowl. Butch and Cassidy cause trouble along with the traditional Team Rocket members of Jessie, James, and Meowth. And there are story beats pulled straight from Pokemon Gold and Silver including a missing Farfetch’d and strange new Pokeballs.
While the season hasn’t dropped on Pokemon TV quite yet the third movie, aptly titled Pokemon 3: The Movie, is now featured for your movie watching convenience, and should be a good introduction to the Johto region for those that missed out the first time around. The third season joins the entirety of Ash’s adventures in Kanto (seasons 1 & 2), Kalos (seasons 17-19), and Alola (20-22) on the service.
If the new drop has you feeling nostalgic you might want to grab the limited time Ash’s Pikachu mystery gifts for Pokemon Sword and Shield: Several Pikachu wearing Ash’s iconic hats from various regions will be available prior to November 30. It’s worth noting that while the perks of having Ash’s Pikachu are high–Ash is listed as the Original Trainer, the hats are wicked–there are some drawbacks, like not being able to feed it Max Soup and, because it’s Ash’s partner we’re talking about, Pikachu won’t evolve if exposed to a Thunder Stone.
