Stream away!
The PlayStation 5 is shaping up to have a strong launch. Recently announced on PlayStation’s blog, a wide variety of streaming services will be available for download on launch day along with many others available shortly afterwards.
Those services available immediately are Apple TV, Spotify, Netflix, Disney+, Twitch, and YouTube while Peacock, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu are slated for a later release.
For ease of use, the PlayStation 5 will also come with a dedicated media center remote, which will allow users to turn on the console, fast forward/rewind content, adjust volume, and will have dedicated buttons for various services.
Much of this is out of Microsoft’s playbook for the Xbox One–which aimed to be a dedicated “all in one” media system–and betting big that customers don’t want to pay for separate alternatives like Fire TV Sticks or Roku.
