Twitch came through!
The AbleGamers Charity, one of the largest charities supporting gamers with disabilities, was given an incredible gift by Twitch: $1 million!
In a livestream hosted by the COO of AbleGamers, under the name SteveInSpawn (Steven Spohn), well-known streamer DrLupo joined and made the donation announcement on behalf of Twitch, in a truly touching moment:
AbleGamers has been in the business of assisting disabled gamers for over 16 years, by way of providing customized controllers, gaming setups, and otherwise helping gamers get access to whatever they need to enjoy video games. Those who are in need of assistive technology can apply for grants directly through the charity.
In a brief statement on Twitter, AbleGamers noted that “[Twitch’s] staff & communities have supported our mission” since the company’s inception.
“We are honored to say that Twitch has donated $1,000,000 to our mission of combating social isolation, fostering inclusive communities, & improving the quality of life for people with disabilities”.
The charity will run its first annual Video Game Accessibility Awards on November 15th, 2020 at 8PM Pacific on their Twitch channel.
Twitch made a similar donation to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital last year.
