Follow up to the original anime appears bittersweet.
Fans of the original DigiDestined will get to say goodbye in the latest movie release in the Digimon series, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. IGN revealed the English dubbed trailer and exclusive details on the release of the film in Canada and the US earlier today.
A powerful new Digimon named Eosmon appears to be targeting DigiDestined around the world while Tai and Matt appear to be losing their connection to their iconic digital monsters. The set up seems to be channeling the same kind of nostalgic message that Toy Story 3 went for with its grown up audience, serving up a reminder about the things we loved as children, and how to say goodbye.
September 29th will be the digital only release–available both in Japanese with English subs, as well as an English dub–with the physical release coming a week later.
The film has already been released in Japan and features grown up versions of the characters from the first two anime series, dipping into their college and work lives, while promising to be the last time we see some of these characters together. While by no means essential to have seen Digimon Adventures tri–the 15th anniversary follow-up with the original characters in high school–you can watch the episodes on tubi in Japanese with English subs, though broken up into smaller bites, or in English at movie length on the Roku Channel–to get caught up to speed.
