“Who are…losers?”
In an exchange that’s gone viral, four years after it first aired, Alex Trebek teases that those listening to nerdcore might be called losers.
In the interview, Trebek asks Jeopardy contestant Susan Cole about her love of ‘nerdcore hiphop’, seemingly baffled by the nerdcore genre.
“It’s people who identify as nerdy,” Cole explained, “rapping about the things they love. Video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners.”
Trebek fires back by quipping “losers in other words”, though later in the episode he notes he’s teasing.
The clip emerges as new episodes of Jeopardy are slated to wind down in the coming weeks. COVID-19 has prevented new tapings from occurring; the host, meanwhile, is battling terminal pancreatic cancer.
Fans are reminiscing about their favourite Alex Trebek dunks as well. One classic moment sees all three competitors blank on an entire category. What is football? Meanwhile, a famous Simpsons moment of Trebek’s ruthless nature is making the rounds, as Trebek demands the Simpsons pony up $5200.
Select episodes of Jeopardy are streaming on Netflix.
