For years, one common request for Duolingo is to add a Finnish option to learn the delightfully tricky language of Finland. Many years later, it finally happened!
One reason behind the delay is the incredible complexity of the Finnish language (which actually inspired J.R.R. Tolkien to create Elvish), and the lack of shared traits between any other languages. In fact, a study revealed that Finnish is one of the most difficult languages to learn for native English speakers, requiring an estimated 44 weeks to become proficient.
Duolingo boasts several other languages for users to learn including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Arabic, Esperanto, and more including the fictional language of Klingon.
