Company known for quality wooden gaming accessories and furniture is also facing its own coronavirus challenges.
The notable gaming supplies company Wyrmwood announced it’s producing intubation boxes for health care professionals in its bi-weekly YouTube and Twitch series chronicling the work of the company.
Essential term:
intubation: the act of inserting tubing into a patient’s throat in attempt to keep the airway open; in dealing with COVID-19, this is a necessary step when preparing a patient for the drastic step of breathing with a ventilator.
Wyrmwood announced that it’s creating the boxes following the design of Dr. Hsien Yung Lai, joining a variety of producers around the world changing their operations to support the COVID-19 response, and providing them free of charge to front line workers.
The boxes essentially work by creating a barrier for health professionals to place over the patient, blocking any potential spread of pathogens, while allowing room to move the arms during the intubation.
Health care and related officials will be able to request the boxes directly from the company though Wyrmwood notes that quantities will be “extremely limited” initially. Wyrmwood is financing this project through direct donations as well as sale of another in their “Shield” series, this one called Protection, with a portion of the proceeds going to fighting COVID-19.
Such a retooling of Wyrmwood’s operations comes as the company announced it essentially laid off its entire staff leaving a skeleton crew to work in their production facility.
