Nothing new for heavy hitting franchises.
A pair of major gaming franchises got picked up for the manga and comics treatment recently.
Yen Press announced they acquired a rights to produce manga based on Kingdom Hearts III. Yen Press is one of two publishers to previously publish manga in the Kingdom Hearts universe and the acquisition comes as it also nabbed an Italian series called Wizards of Mickey. Shiro Amano, the artist who has drawn all prior Kingdom Hearts manga adaptatons, is attached to this project as well, with game director Tetsuya Nomura announced as the writer. Volume 1 is slated to release this November and will retail for $13.00 USD/$15.00 CAD.
On the Assassin’s front, Ubisoft have been aggressively announcing book releases for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Penguin will be releasing a novelization by the end of the year, they say, while Dark Horse comics has been announced as the publisher of the game’s official art book. There’s even a premium edition of the book that comes with “an exclusive cover, decorative slipcase, and a high-quality lithography art print”. The art book and its deluxe edition will be timed for release with the game’s launch.
Dark Horse will also be releasing a comic book prequel series. Titled Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory, the story will seemingly follow both male and female Eivor, at least if the first cover is any indication, with stories of village raids and rare prizes. Three comic prequels are slated for release in all with the first due out October 21st.
